"It's Dave's Fault!" Build
« on: November 29, 2016, 02:43:20 PM »
So, couple months back I bought a YJ cheap to turn over for some extra cash. The XJ at this point was far from what I wanted; Not fun to street drive anymore and was quickly approaching a trailer-only rig. Most of the windows quit working, only 1 door shut correctly, the driver door didn't shut, it sit crooked no matter what springs I used, and it's not very comfortable for anyone over five foot eight; especially with a cage and suspension seats. After talking to Dave for ten minutes on the phone, he convinced me to build the YJ over trying to piece together what was left of my crumpled beer can XJ. Sooooooo, I parted out the XJ and kept the AW4, 231 with SYE, the 44/9" combo, and sold off the wheels, tires, bumpers, blah, blah, blah. I was left with....

And of course, the YJ. 4.0, AX15, 177k miles, fixed what rust was there other than the fenders. Tub is solid....

So the plans are for a small stretch using the BTF kit and all YJ springs. About 3" of lift SUA.

Currently I have....
-flat belly skid
-1" body lift for clearance of case
-RCI fuel cell
-BTF stretch kit
-3" springs
-new body mounts
-37" stickies
-Everything for AW4 swap
-Everything for axle swap

Once it all shows up and once I get some time, I will start.

I agree,  the body lift isn't needed.

You need at least a 5" body life to get a flat belly!

I can. I think denying it is out of the question, cutting would have to be done. I just don't know if I want to do all that. We shall see....

I'll try that. No suspension lift needed!

Took it for a ride this weekend. Planing to get working on it this week since school is officially done for me FOREVER! So, plan is start by doing the fuel cell and getting it in place, then start swapping axles. Anyone recommend an external pump? One of the E2000's is what I think I need.

If you disconnected both track bars and sway bar those stock springs will out-flex most aftermarket ones

Front is mostly in. I'm not a fan of how Barnes does their U bolt flip kits. I'm really not happy with the fit and finish and the modifying I had to do, but I figure if they get destroyed or just don't hold up, I can switch to the regular SOA spring plates fairly easily. Other than that, I need to figure out my shock mounts, fix 2 brake lines, and I ordered a Chevy style inverted Y steering setup. Crossover with a high steer arm just ain't gonna cut it at this height. Plan is to get to working on getting to at least the point of have starting the rear stretch this weekend. I've also decided to just run the BTF fenders. I don't see where I really need a high line.
